Chapter 02

The Shadow

The dark brother within

"Everyone carries a shadow, and the less it is embodied in the individual's conscious life, the blacker and denser it is." — C.G. Jung

Understanding the Shadow

The shadow represents the parts of ourselves that we deny or repress. It contains not only our unacceptable impulses and weaknesses but also undeveloped aspects of the personality that have been pushed into the unconscious.

In Aion, Jung explores how the shadow manifests both personally and collectively, particularly through the figure of the Antichrist as the shadow of the Christian ideal.
